7/22/16: West Texas A&M University

Assistant Professor/Instructor Mass Communication

The Department of Communication at West Texas A&M University invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Mass Communication, beginning Spring, 2017, but with the option to move the starting date to Fall, 2017. A Masters in Mass Communication or a related field is required for appointment as an instructor, fixed term. A PhD in Mass Communication or a related field is required for appointment as an Assistant Professor, tenure track. Broadcast professionals who are considering embarking on a new career in fulltime teaching are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant should provide evidence of successful teaching or mentoring. The successful applicant would teach undergraduate courses (such as, but not limited to, introduction to mass communication, television news reporting and anchoring, sports broadcasting practicum, digital news production). Two to 5 years of professional media industry experience is required. Applicants should have a commitment to media convergence, the ability to assist/advise student organizations, and assist with academic advising and serve on departmental, college and university committees.

The Department of Communication has an enrollment of over 300 students in both Communication Studies and Mass Communication. Excellent facilities within the Department of Communication include an HD-TV studio, a news studio, computer labs for media design and media writing, and an FCC licensed radio station. The Department of Communication at West Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure track, assistant professor position in Mass Communication, beginning Spring, 2017, but with the option to move the starting date to Fall, 2017. A Masters in Journalism or a related field is required for appointment as an instructor, fixed term. A PhD in Mass Communication or a related field is required for appointment as an Assistant Professor, tenure track The successful candidate should have an established record of teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level, 2 to 3 years work experience in the media industry, expertise in teaching a variety of communication courses such as new media, media history, audio journalism, international journalism, and qualitative or quantitative research methods, and a commitment to service learning. The successful applicant would also be serving as the faculty advisor for student media and as an academic advisor for Broadcast Journalism majors, as well as serving on departmental, college, and university committees as needed. The applicant should be familiar with Associated Press guidelines.

6/20/16: Vista Ridge High School

Vista Ridge High School in Leander ISD (just North of Austin) is searching for a full time Speech & Debate Coach. This is a two-year-old, medium-sized team which has already produced a UIL State Champion in Extemp and was 2nd place 5A Speech Team at UIL State this year. Most of the team will be returning; so there will be a good varsity base with lots of room for growth. The kids are kind, appreciative, and coach-able.
