INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN

Materials:  magazines, sticky notes, glue, scissors

Hook:  Show a clip from the movie "Anchorman:  the Legend of Ron Burgundy"  from youtube.com using Anchorman Opening News Clip and Anchorman: Legend of Ron Burgundy - Intro  (scenes will need to be previewed and edited)

Lesson:   Do a Jot Thought: On separate sticky notes, have students jot down 5 different ways they have communicated in the last 24 hours.  After giving students a handout with the definitions of the five levels of communication (see Levels of Communication under Documents),  divide the class into groups of 5 and have the students discuss their sticky notes and categorize each one's level of communication.  When finished with all sticky notes, have the groups present an example of each level to the class.

Guided practice:  Working with a group, students will make a poster.  See Levels of Communication poster under Documents.

Posters will be presented in class.   Discuss their examples.

Independent practice/assessment:  See Communication Level worksheet under Documents.

Closure:  Short answer--which level of communication do you use most often?
